Gearbox Software then acquired the Duke Nukem IP in 2010, in what it would later call a favor to 3D Realms to help it out of its legal problems. Take-Two sued 3D Realms in 2009 over the studio’s failure to complete Duke Nukem Forever. But it would continue to drag on, and 3D Realms and publisher Take-Two Interactive came into increasing conflict over a game that Broussard and co-creator Scott Miller were financing themselves, which meant their publisher had no deadline to enforce or launch window to market. But developers switched to Unreal soon after E3 1998, one of several changes and feature creeps that would prolong Duke Nukem Forever‘s development for another 13 years.ģD Realms, the game’s original studio, showed footage of the game at E3 2001, partly to placate fans who were worried about its lengthy development. “A huge chunk is playable, a huge chunk is block-outs with no enemies.” They say they will release the game’s source code with instructions for compiling it. The leaker - again posting on 4chan - claims that “almost every chapter is present in some form” of this build. It is modern and sleekest, with a “ego” meter that functions as a shield against damage. The SWAT police return fire and Duke bursts through their bodies with alien tendrils after he blows them out. In the clip, Duke blasts his way through a burning, yet dimly lit strip club, encountering minimal resistance as he goes. This information has not been leaked to me. DUKE NUKEM FOREVER ENGINE MOD
If you're a Duke-head who simply can't wait for June to roll around - we recommend checking your expectations for that, too - we suggest playing Duke Nukem Forever 2013, a fan mod that takes the concepts from early Forever trailers and puts them into Duke Nukem 3D. Rumors have long swirled about the reasons for its many delays, including an unwillingness to commit to a single engine, a development team that was too small for the task, and an office-wide taste for popular MMORPGs. Overall, while it certainly doesn't look as impressive as the original Halo, it's fair to say that, if this version of the game had been released in the early ‘00s, it probably would've fared better than the hacked-together game we got in 2011.ģD flop - If you aren't familiar, Duke Nukem 3D was originally announced by developer 3D Realms in 1997, which makes its 14-year development cycle one of the longest in video game history.

It bears a strong resemblance to other popular PC first-person shooters of the day, particularly the Soldier of Fortune series.

While it's hard to judge without playing it for ourselves, judging by the clips, this version of Duke Nukem Forever leans a lot closer to the formula established by the classic Duke Nukem 3D. We'll have to see if that actually happens, though, as promises of future leaks of this variety often fail to pan out.

Frankly, a mod-engineered version of Forever would be far preferable to the real thing. Theoretically, this would allow the very active Duke Nukem modding community to mess around with it. They further state that they will leak all of this content in June. It is the sequel to the 1996 game Duke Nukem 3D, as part of the long-running Duke Nukem video game series. It is a first-person shooter for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, 1 developed by 3D Realms, Triptych Games, Gearbox Software and Piranha Games.
